If you're age 65 or older, you may qualify for the Medavie Blue Cross Seniors' Prescription Drug Program and Seniors' Health Program, which provide prescription drug coverage and optional hospital, health and dental benefits
Who can apply?Uninsured New Brunswickers 65 years of age or older may enrol.
When should I apply for coverage?You will be accepted into the Seniors’ Program if:
If you apply within 60 days following your 65 th birthday, coverage becomes effective on the first day of the month you turn 65. If you apply within 60 days following cancellation of another plan, coverage becomes effective on the first day of the month following the cancellation date.
What if I am late applying?If you did not apply within the 60-day limit, you may apply as a late applicant but are required to complete a medical questionnaire for drug coverage. You may or may not be accepted, based on your medical history. A one-year waiting period will apply to late applicants for some Health Benefits.

If you are a late applicant, your prescription drug coverage becomes effective the first day of the month following the receipt of your application.

Optional Hospital & Health Coverage
To complement your drug coverage, consider adding hospital coverage and health benefits to design a plan to best suit your needs.
Hospital benefits cover 80% up to $50 per day up to a maximum of 90 days per year towards a semi-private or private hospital room. This plan does not provide hospitalization coverage for the first three months following enrolment.
Dental benefits are covered at 70% and include: recall exam, polishing, scaling, fillings, root canal treatment, extractions, minor denture repair, denture reline and rebase. Frequency limits may apply. This plan does not provide dental coverage for the first six months following enrollment.
Health coverage offers Basic and Enhanced plan options.
Accidental Death Benefit*
Accidental Death is included under both the Basic Health Benefits and Enhanced Health Benefits and pays $5,000 for a member whose life is taken by an accident.
